What Is HeyGen Voice? How to Use It Online, Step by Step
A plain guide to HeyGen Voice text to speech, its 24 voices and 39 languages, and how to turn a script into a WAV file in the online studio.
If you have a script and need it read aloud by a natural-sounding voice, HeyGen Voice is one of the text to speech models worth trying. This guide covers what HeyGen Voice is, what it can do, and how to use it in our online studio without installing anything.
What is HeyGen Voice?
HeyGen Voice is a text to speech model family. You give it text, pick a voice, and it returns spoken audio. On this site we run HeyGen Voice through fal.ai and wrap it in a simple web studio, so you can generate audio from a browser.
There are two models:
- HeyGen Voice is the standard model. It costs 30 credits per 1,000 characters.
- HeyGen Voice Turbo costs 4 credits per 1,000 characters. It uses the same voices, languages and cloning, and it is built for speed and volume.
If you are unsure which one fits your project, we wrote a separate comparison of HeyGen Voice and HeyGen Voice Turbo.
What HeyGen Voice can do
Here is what you get when you open the studio:
- 24 preset voices, including Jonah, Nadine, Tabitha, Soren, Elowen, Vincent, Marielle, Lucian, Noelle and Simon.
- 39 languages, among them English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Hindi, Arabic and Vietnamese.
- Automatic language detection, or you can set the language yourself.
- An expressiveness slider from 0 to 1.
- 44.1 kHz WAV output that drops straight into a video editor or podcast project.
- Instant voice cloning on paid plans, so HeyGen Voice can speak in a voice you own or have permission to use.
As a rough rule, 1,000 characters of text is about one minute of speech. That makes it easy to estimate cost before you hit generate.
How to use HeyGen Voice online
You don't need an API key or any code. The whole process takes a couple of minutes.
Step 1: Create an account
Sign up with your email or Google account, then pick a plan or a credit pack. The smallest option is a $14.90 pack of 2,000 credits: about 66,000 characters on the standard HeyGen Voice model, or 500,000 characters on HeyGen Voice Turbo.
Step 2: Open the HeyGen Voice studio
Go to the studio. You will see a text box, a model picker, a voice list and a few settings.
Step 3: Paste your script
Type or paste your text. Each generation can be up to 5,000 characters on higher plans. The Free plan allows 1,000 characters per generation and Starter allows 3,000. For a long script, split it at natural breaks like paragraphs or scene changes.
A few things help HeyGen Voice read better:
- Use normal punctuation. Commas and full stops give the model places to pause.
- Write numbers the way you want them spoken if the context is unusual.
- Keep one language per generation when you can, or set the language manually.
Step 4: Choose a model and a voice
Pick HeyGen Voice for your final takes and HeyGen Voice Turbo for drafts or bulk work. Then browse the 24 voices. Listen to two or three before deciding; a voice that sounds right for an ad may feel wrong for a tutorial.
Step 5: Adjust expressiveness
The expressiveness slider runs from 0 to 1. Lower values sound calmer and more even. Higher values add more variation. For narration and training videos, start in the middle and adjust from there.
Step 6: Generate and download
Click generate. When the audio is ready, play it in the browser and download the 44.1 kHz WAV. Every result is saved in your generation history, so you can come back and grab an older take later. If a generation fails, the credits are refunded automatically.
Who uses HeyGen Voice?
People pick HeyGen Voice for all sorts of jobs. Some common ones:
- Voiceovers for YouTube videos and short-form clips
- Narration for online courses and product walkthroughs
- Drafts of ad scripts before booking a voice actor
- Localized versions of the same script in several languages
- Audio for prototypes, games and apps
Paid plans include commercial use of the audio you generate with HeyGen Voice, so you can publish it in client work and monetized videos.
How much does HeyGen Voice cost here?
Pricing is credit based. Choose a plan:
| Plan | Price | Credits per month |
|---|---|---|
| Starter | $19.90/mo | 5,000 |
| Pro | $39.90/mo or $383/yr | 12,500 |
| Studio | $99.90/mo or $959/yr | 31,500 |
If you only need audio now and then, credit packs never expire: 2,000 credits for $14.90, 5,000 for $29.90 or 12,000 for $59.90. Full details are on the pricing page.
To put that in minutes, take the Pro plan. 12,500 credits divided by 30 credits per 1,000 characters is about 416,000 characters with HeyGen Voice, which is close to 7 hours of speech. With HeyGen Voice Turbo the same 12,500 credits cover about 3.1 million characters, or roughly 52 hours.
Tips for better HeyGen Voice results
- Read your script out loud once before generating. Awkward sentences sound awkward in any voice.
- Generate a short test line first, then the full script.
- Use HeyGen Voice Turbo to try different voices cheaply, then switch to HeyGen Voice for the final file.
- Keep a note of the voice and expressiveness value you used, so later clips match.
Try HeyGen Voice now
The fastest way to understand HeyGen Voice is to hear it with your own text. Open the studio, paste a paragraph, and compare a couple of voices. Even the smallest credit pack covers dozens of test runs.
