What the two models have in common
Switching between the models doesn't change your workflow. Both give you:
- The same 24 preset voices, such as Jonah, Nadine, Soren, Elowen, Hugh, Iona and Gareth
- The same 39 languages, with auto-detection or a manual setting
- Voice cloning on paid plans, so a cloned voice works with either model
- The expressiveness slider from 0 to 1
- Up to 5,000 characters per generation (1,000 on Free, 3,000 on Starter)
- 44.1 kHz WAV downloads and a saved generation history
So the choice really comes down to cost, speed and how you plan to use the audio.
Where HeyGen Voice and HeyGen Voice Turbo differ
Price
This is the big one. The standard model costs 30 credits per 1,000 characters. Turbo costs 4. If you generate a lot of audio, that gap adds up fast.
Purpose
HeyGen Voice is the standard model. Turbo is built for speed and volume: lots of lines, many drafts, fast turnaround. We suggest you listen to both with your own script in the studio and judge for yourself. Your ears and your project are the best test.
Cost math: HeyGen Voice vs HeyGen Voice Turbo
A handy rule: about 1,000 characters is one minute of speech. Here are a few real-world cases.
Example 1: A 10-minute YouTube voiceover
A 10-minute script is around 10,000 characters.
- Standard: 10 × 30 = 300 credits
- Turbo: 10 × 4 = 40 credits
On the Starter plan (5,000 credits a month) you could make about 16 of these with the standard model, or about 125 with Turbo.
Example 2: A one-hour online course
Sixty minutes of narration is about 60,000 characters.
- Standard: 60 × 30 = 1,800 credits
- Turbo: 60 × 4 = 240 credits
The Pro plan gives 12,500 credits a month, so either option fits, but Turbo leaves most of the month's credits untouched.
Example 3: Drafts on Turbo, final on HeyGen Voice
This is the workflow we like best. Say you have a 3,000-character ad script and you want to try 20 versions with different voices and wording before picking one.
- 20 drafts on Turbo: 20 × 3 × 4 = 240 credits
- 1 final take on the standard model: 3 × 30 = 90 credits
- Total: 330 credits
Doing all 21 takes on the standard model would cost 21 × 3 × 30 = 1,890 credits. Mixing the models saves more than 80%.
What a minute costs in dollars
On Pro, $39.90 buys 12,500 credits, or about $0.0032 per credit. One minute of speech then costs roughly $0.10 with the standard model and about $0.013 with Turbo. Credit packs work out a little higher per credit but never expire. See the pricing page for every plan.

Switching models in the studio
In the studio, the model picker sits next to the voice list. Choose HeyGen Voice or HeyGen Voice Turbo, keep the same voice and settings, and generate again. Your history keeps both takes so you can compare them side by side. Failed generations are refunded automatically on either model.
